Demasiada agua, demasiado cerca de casa, es la más reciente exhibición del artista inglés Simon Linington, la cual consiste en una vitrina de vidrio y acero de 2 metros de altura llena de ladrillo, tierra, arena y conchas recolectadas en la cercana costa Schouwen-Duiveland en Zelanda, Países Bajos.
Zelanda es una provincia de los Países Bajos que consta de islas y penínsulas conectadas por represas y puentes, y traducida al inglés, Zelanda significa Sea Land.
Debido a que sigue siendo moldeado por las mareas del mar y muchas inundaciones, Simon decidió hacer Too Much Water con materiales que también provienen del mar.
El título de la escultura está adaptado de Tanta agua, tan cerca de casa, un cuento del escritor estadounidense Raymond Carver. La historia habla de un grupo de amigos que tropiezan con el cuerpo de una mujer muerta mientras acampaban durante un viaje de pesca, y también se refieren a la inundación del Mar del Norte de 1953 que azotó los Países Bajos y se cobró cientos de vidas en Zelanda y causó daños generalizados.

Demasiada agua, demasiado cerca de casa, se rellenó con solo 5 materiales, cada uno de un color diferente. Simon decidió crear bandas más anchas que antes, la más grande mide 70 cm de alto, porque quiso crear grandes áreas de un solo color.
Dentro de estas áreas o bloques de color, se puede ver la acción de verter el material en la escultura donde piezas del mismo o similar tamaño de material han caído juntas, creando bandas surpentinas de material que se mueven unas sobre otras y alrededor dentro de las esquinas de la vitrina.
Es un artista de la Isla de Wight, Reino Unido. Tiene un BA(Hons) en Escultura de la Universidad de las Artes en Chelsea, Londres. En 2010, la Royal Society of Sculptors le otorgó el premio Emerging Artists Bursary Award (beca para artistas emergentes).

Too Much Water, Too Close to Home 2023 / Simon Linington
Brick, earth, sand and shell in a glass and steel vitrine

Too Much Water, Too Close to Home, is a 2-metre tall glass and steel vitrine filled with brick, earth, sand and shell collected from the nearby coastline Schouwen-Duiveland in Zeeland, the Netherlands.
Zeeland is a province of the Netherlands consisting of Islands and peninsulas connected by dams and bridges, and translated into English, Zeeland means Sea Land.
Because it continues to be shaped by the sea’s tides and many floods, I decided to make Too Much Water with materials which also come from the sea.
The title of my sculpture is adapted from So Much Water, So Close to Home, a short story by American writer Raymond Carver. The story tells of a group of friends who stumble upon the body of a dead woman while camping during a fishing trip, while also referring to the North Sea flood of 1953 which struck the Netherlands taking hundreds of lives in Zeeland and causing widespread damage.

Too much Water, Too Close to Home, is filled with just 5 materials, each a different colour. I decided to create wider bands than I have previously – the largest measures 70cm tall – because I wanted large areas of single colours.
Within these areas or blocks of colour, the action of pouring the material into the sculpture can be seen where pieces of the same or similar size material have fallen together, creating surpentine bands of material which move over one another and around inside the corners of the vitrine.

Simon Linington is an artist from the Isle of Wight, UK. He has a BA(Hons) in Sculpture from Chelsea University of the Arts, London. In 2010 he was awarded the Emerging Artists Bursary Award by the Royal Society of Sculptors.
